Insomniac Games has confirmed in a tweet that Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart won’t be releasing on other platforms outside of PlayStation 5.
The tweet reveals that the developer doesn’t have plans on a current-gen version of the game, differently from Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales. The latest Spider-Man game was originally announced as a PS5 exclusive but was later confirmed to be releasing on PlayStation 4.
While a tweet is sure different from an official statement, it sure is committed to having the game only launching on the next-gen platform. “It’s a PS5 exclusive,” said Insomniac Games when asked about Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart possibly shipping on PS4.
It’s worth noting that, differently from Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales, the upcoming Ratchet & Clank game is built specifically to take advantage of the new SSD included in the PS5.
Levels and progression are designed in a way that users will be empowered to traverse entire worlds with almost imperceptible loadings. This would not be possible on PS4 but, in case of a port, would require a change at a design level that would make it easier for Insomniac Games to develop a new game instead.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart doesn’t have a release date yet, but is scheduled for PlayStation 5’s launch window.
