Demon’s Souls is one of the biggest PlayStation 5 launch titles. It has peculiar gameplay that might feel unsettling for newcomers and non-hardcore gamers who could be putting their hands on the most mainstream console on its European day one today or last week in the rest of the world.

Sony and developer Bluepoint Games were well aware of that, and at some point during the remake development, they considered introducing an easy mode to make the game more approachable for everyone.

“This project remakes the work of another development team”, creative director Gavin Moore told The Washington Post. “While we’ve made some changes, our core driving mantra has always been to preserve the spirit and intent of the original creators.” This is the reason why “while we considered and discussed an easy mode, we ultimately decided it wasn’t our place.”

Bluepoint Games wanted to “merely (be) custodians for this amazing game,” and “to add something” like an easy mode “would fundamentally alter its balance.”

This is why, despite being in a place where shipping a launch title for PlayStation 5, it was decided Demon’s Souls would have retained its extremely challenging gameplay and not altered any of its original balance.

With that said, Bluepoint didn’t resist and added some easter eggs, included a mysterious door people are wondering what might be hiding right now.
