Noivern is a unique Pokémon, and you can now capture it in Pokémon Go. It’s from the Kalos region and was released alongside several other Kalos-based Pokémon during the first wave. It’s a great Pokémon for anyone looking for a new Great or Ultra League Pokémon to their roster.
Noivern is a Flying and Dragon-type Pokémon. It’s weak to Dragon, Fairy, Ice, and Rock-type attacks, but it’s resistant to Bug, Fighting, Fire, Grass, Ground, and Water-type moves. It has a maximum CP of 2,764, an attack of 205, a defense of 175, and a stamina of 198. It has some decent stats all around that make a suitable choice for any trainer.
These are all of the moves Noivern can learn.
Fast moves
- Air Slash (Flying-type) – 9 damage and 3 energy per turn (3 damage per turn)
- Bite (Dark-type) – 4 damage and 2 energy per turn (4 damage per turn)
Charge moves
- Draco Meteor (Dragon-type) – 150 damage and 65 energy (100% chance to lower the user’s attack by two ranks)
- Heat Wave (Fire-type) – 95 damage and 75 energy
- Hurricane (Flying-type) – 110 damage and 65 energy
- Psychic (Psychic-type) – 90 damage and 55 energy (10% chance to lower an opponent’s defenses by one rank)
Noivern has several interesting moves, at least, charge moves. The fast moves are in the okay category. Of the two options, you want to go with air slash, hands down. Not only does it do more damage, but it generates more energy per turn, so it’s the best option.
For charge moves, you have several choices. Noivern has multiple different typing attacks that make it a standout option, and players will be working out the best way to utilize these with Noivern’s median stats. First off, you want to toss out heat wave. Noivern using that Fire-type move doesn’t help it too much, even if it would assist when battling certain Ice-type Pokémon, but there are better choices. Psychic, for example, is an excellent move to give it.
Most trainers will be torn between picking to use draco meteor and hurricane. They both have the same energy use, but draco meteor has 40 more points of damage. However, it lowers Noivern’s attack by two ranks every time you use it. It will depend on how you build Noivern’s team and how you back it up. But you might get more use out of draco meteor in the Great League and hurricane for the Ultra League.
Overall, Noivern is a decent Pokémon choice. It’s not going to be the big, obvious choice you go for from the latest wave of Kalos region Pokémon, but it’s decent. Make sure it knows air slash for its fast move, and then psychic and hurricane or draco meteor for its charge moves.
